Hand Stripping Service
Hand stripping is a specialist grooming technique that involves removing dead hairs from the coat by hand, to maintain the natural coat texture and colour. This gives room for new hair growth and leaves a natural look. Usually completed twice a year in spring and autumn, this also speeds up the natural cycle of growth and shedding.
Hand stripping targets older dull hairs, which easily pull out and leaves room for stronger hairs to grow in their space. This is how a fuller coat, that has a shinier texture and more vibrant colour is maintained.
This is suitable for wire and silky haired dog breeds, mostly spaniels, terriers and retrievers, however different factors affect if a coat can be stripped. It is common that neutered dogs may not hand strip, as changes to their hormones impacts the hair texture and growth. However for those that it is suitable, stripping does not hurt and should not cause any pain or discomfort, in fact some dogs fall asleep!
